Autism Family Support Association

Welcome to AFSA

The Autism Family Support Association Inc. (AFSA) is a community based volunteer group serving those in Victoria who have a family member/s on the Autism Spectrum.

Mission

Who are we

Established in 1985, AFSA’s purpose is to assist and support individuals with an Autism Spectrum Disorder by providing emotional and practical support for parents, carers and families.

AFSA is managed by a voluntary committee which strives to be the voice of parents, carers and families by establishing relationships with like organizations and government offices in order to convey relevant experiences and information.

Via our website, social media and meetings AFSA provides links to contemporary evidence based information and links to resources, networks and support services within Victoria.

AFSA actively raises our community’s concerns with state and federal government policy makers, the primary goal being to achieve better education and support services for Autism / ASD families.

A little bit

About Us

AFSA actively raises our community’s concerns with state and federal government policy makers, the primary goal being to achieve better education and support services for Autism/ASD families.

AFSA was formed by a group of parents in the 1980’s. AFSA has been a respected and valued member of many federal and state government reviews and working groups representing the family perspective – the ‘lived experience’. This involvement has been instrumental in advancing awareness and understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder by policy makers, service providers and the community.

Many families now have their family member participating in the NDIS. For some things are progressing smoothly, but for many there are problems. These include inadequate funding, the need for appeals, difficulties faced by those with complex and/or high support needs and difficulties finding appropriate service providers.

This Forum brings together parents, advocates and senior NDIA officers to provide information, guidance and the benefits of their experiences. This is the third AFSA Forum – our objective is to provide parents, carers and family members with relevant and useful information from the very best in the field.

Cost is $20 for AFSA members*, $30 for non members.
