AFSA, acts upon information from individuals with an ASD, parents/carers and others about issues facing them in the various support and education services and systems, often conducting surveys around the state and then presenting the facts to ensure change for the better. Better outcomes is our goal.
We meet with members of the autism community, MP’s and senior department personnel on a regular basis which is the cornerstone of what we do and the basis for getting results.
2012 Advisory Groups:
Education - Ministerial Advisory Group for Students with Disabilities and Additional Learning Needs. (Minister Dixon)
Autism State Plan Advisory Group (Minister Wooldridge)
Recently completed - Helping Children with Autism – Positive Partnership Initiative (DEEWR)
As a result of the recent State Election, our advocacy strategy will be reviewed. Stay tuned!
“Autism – Stop the Robbery” is AFSA’s latest campaign aimed at the Victorian State Government to ensure priorities indentified by the community during the development of the Autism State Plan get appropriate and adequate funding.
Our lobby strategy is based around “Autism – Stop the Robbery” because people with an Autism Spectrum Disorder of all ages and their families/carers are being robbed by this Victorian State Government.
Children and adolescents with an ASD should not be robbed of intervention and education services
People with an ASD should not be robbed of employment and independent living opportunities
People with an ASD and their families should not be robbed of support services
Siblings should not be robbed of a quality lifestyle
Families should not be robbed of respite and hope
