Victorian Government Inquiry into Services for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder

MAY 2018 UPDATE - stakeholder consultation workshops were held during February to April and attended by the AFSA President and committee members.  Work on a plan draft is now being completed by the Victorian Autism Plan Advisory Group.  The AFSA President is a member of this group representing the concerns and lived experience of parents and carers of family members with an ASD.  Please find attached a copy of the May Update from the Department of Health and Human Services here.

FEBRUARY 2018 UPDATE - the state government responded to this Inquiry Report in December 2017 - you can download a copy of their response here. The Victorian Government, together with stakeholders, will develop an Autism Plan that responds to the recommendations of the Inquiry. The government response notes that the Autism Plan will drive the inclusion, support and well-being of Victorians with ASD, within our neighbourhoods, schools, health services, work places, recreation settings and all life experiences.  AFSA is represented on the Plan advisory group by our President, Michael Tucker. The advisory group has recently issued an Update outlining work to date and a Key Messages with Q&A document which we have added to our website for your information and downloading.

 JULY & SEPTEMBER 2017 - AFSA prepared a submission for this Inquiry which was lodged in late April 2016. We were invited to make a personal presentation to the Inquiry on September 12th. A copy of our submission can be downloaded here. To read about other submissions and the work of the Inquiry, go to the Inquiry webpage here.  The Report from the committee was released on 21st June 2017 and can be viewed here. The Report is extensive with 101 recommendations.  However, there are still some gaps and omissions. AFSA has prepared a response statement which can be downloaded here.  

Victorian Ombudsman Investigation into Victorian Government School Expulsions

Victorian Government Department of Education Use of Restraint and Seclusion Guidelines

Victorian Government proposal to 'privatise' disability services - accommodation, early intervention, respite and behaviour intervention services

Victorian Government Inquiry into Abuse in Disability Services

Rollout of the NDIS in Victoria 

On 16th September 2015 the Victorian Government signed bilateral funding agreements with the Federal Government and announced the rollout of the program in Victoria. For full details, go to the NDIS website here.
